Most property websites talk about achievements, awards and transactions.
I thought maybe it’s more meaningful to simply let people understand how I think as a person instead.
Here are some questions people have asked me over the years that I thought might help others understand me a little better.
1. The Man Behind the Name
Why is my name spelled ‘Jerey’ instead of ‘Jerry’?
👉 “Jerry” was originally the correct spelling. But after hearing “Jerry the mouse” enough times in life, I decided to change it to something that felt a little less playful.
Why am I not married?
👉 Haven’t met the right one. Until then, let’s not jeopardise someone else’s life.
Why do I eat so much rice? Everyone is cutting down on it.
👉 I usually get asked this when eating with someone new. It’s because it’s usually the cheapest thing in the meal and keeps you full the longest.
What is one word that I define myself?
👉 Grounded. No funny stuff.
Am I a very optimistic person?
👉 Not exactly. I think I’m more realistic than optimistic. But realism does not always mean negativity. Sometimes seeing things clearly is its own form of peace.
2. The Raw Truth (My Flaws)
Someone tell me I look unapproachable, a bit “Ah beng,” and sometimes fierce. Why?
👉 If you are looking for a smooth-talking corporate “Yes Man” agent who smiles, nods and agrees with everything you say, that’s probably not me. I don’t smile just to please people, and I don’t sugar-coat the market.
But if you want someone street-smart, grounded, and able to hold firm or fight when protecting your interests during negotiations, then maybe this rougher side of me is exactly why some clients trust me.
What is the worst characteristic I have?
👉 I’m probably not the “small talker” type. My interpersonal skills still need work, and building deep personal closeness with people has never come naturally to me. I’m better at being real than being a smooth talker.
That may come across as awkward at times, but I hope it’s okay. I’m still learning to become better at it.
What is one obstacle I have?
👉 My English has never been the polished corporate type. I usually speak and write more directly, sometimes exactly the way I think. So occasionally my words may come across rougher or less refined than intended.3. How I View Real Estate
What do I think the real estate industry is?
👉 It’s not an industry where shortcuts stay hidden forever. Eventually, life catches up with how people treat others. Maybe it’s not just the industry, maybe that’s just how the world works.
What do I believe is the biggest mistake sellers make?
👉 Believing and chasing oversold ideas, unrealistic expectations and gimmicks instead of understanding the real market.
What is one thing I disagree with in property buying?
👉 Buying something people already know may become a resale problem later — things like facing a wall, rubbish collection points, heavy traffic noise or poor layouts.
This happens especially often during new launches, where hype, showflat presentation and fear of missing out can very often cloud logical judgement.
Which segment in real estate do I dislike most?
👉 Rental. Trying to balance landlord, tenant and fairness at the same time is harder than most people think.
4. My Principles
Someone ask: “Why don’t you communicate through email? It’s more professional?”
👉 If your definition of a professional agent is someone who hides behind formal emails, replies three days later and calls that efficiency, then I’m probably not the one.
I’m a street-smart execution person, not someone sitting behind a desk waiting for time to pass. Real estate moves fast. Speed, judgement and execution matter.
By the time the emails finish going back and forth, the buyer may already have bought another unit.
What is one client statement I dislike most?
👉 I am the one paying you, you must stand on my side. I believe agents should stand on what is fair and correct, not blindly side with whoever pays the commission.
What is one thing I dislike in people?
👉 I dislike situations where clients or agents knowingly take advantage of others purely for their own benefit.
Who is one person in this industry I respect most?
👉 Kelvin Fong, CEO Propnex Realty. I don’t know him personally as a friend, but I think he is one leader that really knows the market and real estate deeply. No Bullshit, no Sugar coating in what he says. Many people can repeat or make up market information, but very few can explain it with the same level of clarity and depth.
Lastly
I’m not the smoothest speaker, the most polished person or the loudest agent in the industry.
But I try to stay grounded, realistic and fair in the way I deal with people and property. I believe money matters, but conscience should matter more.
Maybe that’s enough for me.
